firstly, the first update (bogart) is now available, this update has been documented in a previous thread and is mainly patches.

secondly, the second update (cagney) is available in 36 days at time of writing and includes new challenges and freeburn modes

Apparently they said it's just to make things different. They are all named after actors of yesteryear (humphrey BOGART, james CAGNEY, DAVIS, clint EASTWOOD etc)
