The biggest aviation museum in China and Asia, the Chinese Aviation Museum is located at the foot of Datang Mountain, Changping of Beijing top China tours. It was built in October 1986 and open to the public in November 1989, and it conveniently combines scientific and military education with tourism. On August 20, 1007, the museum was named a national AAAA-level scenic area by the National Tourism Administration.
Covering an area of over 700,000 square meters, the Chinese Aviation Museum ranks 5th in the world in scale for its 318 planes of 138 types, as well as more than 600 kinds of military hardware including guided missiles, radars, bombs, and antiaircraft guns. Based on the types and sizes of its planes, the museum is divided into 4 distinct areas, namely the Cave Exhibit Area, Open-Air Exhibit Area, Treasure Hall, and the Aviation Spirit Monument Area. The Aviation Spirit Monument Area stands remarkably in the square in the front of the museum building and is made of black granite from China’s historically and culturally significant Mount Tai; the epigraph on the monument reads: "In Memorial of Those Who Are Dedicated to the Cause of Chinese Aviation."
1 The Cave Exhibit Area
The Cave Exhibit Area China tour deals covers an area of 20,000 square meters and displays the museum’s planes in chronological order, ranging from the aviary inventions of ancient times to the fighter planes of the modern era. Each of the planes are illuminated by a total of 265 circular lamps hanging from the roof. The planes featured that were made in China include Fengru-2, Leshiwen-1, Yun-5, Jian-12, and Lenin-1. As well, there are examples made by foreign countries, such as Po-2, La-9, and La-5 from the former USSR; P-51 and L-5 from the USA; and 99 from Japan.
2 The Open-Air Exhibit Area
Covering an area of 40,000 square meters, this area displays over 200 planes of 100 types which were made by different countries in the world, including the Viscount and Tu-124 from Great Britain and bombing planes from the former USSR. Highlights also include the special planes for the former Chinese president Mao Zedong, former premier Zhou Enlai, and former commander in chief Zhu De. A number of special exhibitions regularly inform visitors, including the Engine Series Exhibition, Airborne Camera Series Exhibition, and Lifesaving and Protective Equipment Series Exhibition popular China tours.
3 Treasure Hall
Covering an area of 600 square meters, Treasure Hall is composed of 3 exhibition rooms. The first room displays different kinds of remote controlled planes and vivid plane models, all of which were made by technicians from the Chinese Aviation Museum. Many precious gifts presented to Chinese leaders by foreign heads of government are well preserved in the second exhibition room. In the third exhibition room, a number of delicate military emblems can be admired, all of which were presented for foreign military missions and involved important figures in the aviation industry of China.
