The Fishing Village is located on the Lijiang River Yangtze River tour about two kilometres away from the port of the Town of Xingping. Legend has it that the village was built by prominent officials because they believed that this place somehow promised wealth and prosperity. The Fishing Village of Xingping was set up during the Year of Wanli of the Ming Dynasty about 400 years ago. The entire village occupies an area of 1.5 hectares including 48 traditional residences and the Lijiang River flows in front of it. Across the river there are numerous beautiful mountains with lively names such as Mount Carp, Mount Gold Tiles, Mount Ingot, Mount Saber and Mount Penholder. The Fishing Village has witnessed and, surprisingly, has survived the wars between Ming and Qing, China and Japan, the War of Liberation of China and the Cultural Revolution. In July 1998, Bill Clinton, the then president of the United States, visited the Lijiang River and the Fishing Village of Xingping best tours of China, which has helped attract more tourists from both China and abroad. The village is home to a large collection of cultural relics of Xingping. Its architectural style is similar to that of Xushang Town, with the unique features such as the green brick and black tiles, sloping roofs, horse-head-shaped elevated roofs, tilting roof tips, houses with colored painting, and hollowed out flower-shaped windows. It is typical of the residential houses of Northern Guangxi Province during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The buildings are well maintained despite the fact that they are over 500 years old.
