Situated at the northeast corner of Renmin Square, Banruo Temple is one of largest Buddhist temples in northeast China. The temple Changchun City Guide was constructed in 1922 and renamed Huguo (protect country) Banruo Temple in 1934. Covering an area of 7,200 square meters, Banruo Temple is a lively place of worship for locals and pilgrims alike. The gateway of temple is composed of 3 parallel arches. The temple is dotted with dense trees and erects halls. On the both sides of gates stand bell and drum towers. Tianwang Hall, in the front of main gate, enshrines stature of Maitreya Buddha and on the both sides of hall stand the statures of Four Heavenly Kings. Mahavira Hall, behind Tianwang Hall, is the center of the whole temple and enshrines the stature of Sakyamuni with eighteen arhats on both sides. The Mahavira Hall is very magnificent with colored paintings on walls. There is a Buddhist Sutra Hall where collects a number of Buddhist scriptures. Every April 8, 18 and 28 of lunar calendar, temple fairs are held and attracts many Buddha worshipers and visitors Wandering around the temple back alleys, you will find merchant selling statues, shrines and incense. Visitors can take the bus No. 6 from Renmin Street across from the main bus station and get off at Renmen Square affordable china tours.
